"New Jersey Boy"

Note. I wrote a story for this month's post. I truly did. And, although I'm pleased with it, I cannot post the story Online!! Why? Because it is far too personal. I just needed to write that story for therapeutic reasons. However. Some potential "Blog posts" which I write are meant to be private journal entries, and that story is not exempt. Anyhoo. Since February is seemingly speeding away fast {Today's the ninth, already!! Holy smokes!!} and it takes at least seven days for me to write fictional books, I am posting a song, instead!!

Blogging Friends.... So.... I have been missing in action of late. {On both Minuscule is good! and Beautifully Unique.} What have I been up to? Well.... As the song below attests, I have fallen in love with a certain New Jersey boy--named Bruce Springsteen--like my Mom before me!! And, although this happened by accident.... {I was cleaning out my messy bedroom closet on New Year's Eve with Mom.... While listening to Bruce.... [Yeah, we are on a first name basis around here with the rock star!!] I tried on countless different clothing.... So, because I was freezing cold, I hip swayed to Bruce's rockin' music.... While wearing nothing but my underwear.... And I was hooked!!} I have since been hip swaying/dancing/working out--while fully clothed!!--to nearly entire Bruce Springsteen albums three days a week!! {Example. During "Greatest Hits", I run in place--fast!!--as "Born To Run" plays, and I hip sway through every single song, except I sit out "Streets Of Philadelphia"!!} As resulted? I have whipped my once painful wonky right hip into shape, gained some energy, and lost several pounds!! Score!! My motivation? Bruce. Because Look at him!! He is sixty-five freakin' years young!! Yet Bruce still performs the "rock star jump", slides on his knees, crowd surfs.... I can go on and on and on!! Once? While hip swaying/dancing/working out to Bruce's "Dancing In The Dark", about midway through, I felt tired, hot, sweaty, and physically achy. So I quit. That was, until I gave myself a pep-talk. Bruce has done three-hour long shows, I thought, On hot stages. While playing instruments. And singing. And dancing. And interacting with fans. And I'm not talkin'.... You know.... thirty years ago. I'm talkin' recent years. I can dance to eighteen songs!! So, just like that, {As "Dancing In The Dark" still rocked on!!} I continued!! You know what? Bruce makes me feel like a wimp.... And I love it!! Stay hard, stay hungry, stay alive!! {For those observant Bruce Springsteen fanatics out there who know.... That was a line from his song "The Hard Land"!! Oh yeah, and it is also now my Life motto!!} Love you later.

"New Jersey Boy" was supposed to be an artsy poem. I don't write songs!! I am not a musician!! But leave it to Bruce {Who does write songs!! And they are quite poetic, thank-you very much!!} to inspire a {Music-less!!} song out of me!! Leave it to Bruce.... "New Jersey Boy" was also inspired by my Mom's fond story of when she first saw a Bruce Springsteen show which happened sometime during the 1970's!! Enjoy!!

"New Jersey Boy"

A song written by Raelyn!!

Bruce was a gifted musician, singer and songwriter in his twenties;
An adorable curly dark-haired rock star from the 1970's;

New Jersey Boy.... New Jersey boy.... Mom fell in love with a New Jersey boy....
New Jersey Boy.... New Jersey boy.... Mom fell in love with a New Jersey boy....

Bruce grabbed her attention while performing an unforgettable show;
This fan still remembers that concert and liked him, liked him, from the get-go;

New Jersey Boy.... New Jersey boy.... Mom fell in love with a New Jersey boy....
New Jersey Boy.... New Jersey boy.... Mom fell in love with a New Jersey boy....

Now well over four decades plus two generations later, enter me;
He's still a gifted musician, singer and songwriter in his sixties;

New Jersey boy.... New Jersey boy.... I fell in love with a New Jersey boy....
New Jersey boy.... New Jersey boy.... I fell in love with a New Jersey boy....

Bruce is even more attractive now with silver hairs showing there and here;
Oh, he feels like an old family friend who we have known for many years;

New Jersey boy.... New Jersey boy.... I fell in love with a New Jersey boy....
New Jersey boy.... New Jersey boy.... I fell in love with a New Jersey boy....

  1. I really don't know how those rock stars do it at their age, they have so much energy! Your poem is so good, they could actually make it into the lyrics of a song.

      Thank-you for the comment, Friend!!
      "I really don't know how those rock stars do it at their age, they have so much energy!" Seriously, right?! Personally? I love, love, love Bruce for it!! They say that his Life motto is "Stay hard, stay hungry, stay alive!!" and I agree!! Me, I just borrowed it from him!! ;-D
      "Your poem is so good, they could actually make it into the lyrics of a song." Thanks, Friend!! By the way? I am not composing any more songs!! For "New Jersey Boy" was hard!! Why? Because I was dissatisfied with its original chorus. So. After wrongly thinking it was finished, I went back and tweaked the chorus!! I always date my work, but I have no idea to this day when I composed/finished "New Jersey Boy"!! ;op
