“Supergirl”

Blogging Friends…. About twain, going on three, fictional stories ago, my youngest brother, Michael—who is twenty-five years old and has Down syndrome—suggested that I compose a poem about Bob Dylan. I just said, “Yeah, I should, huh? I’ve written poems {or songs} about the last three {celebrity} guys {who} I’ve either liked or loved!!” But here is the thing…. I had actually thought long and hard about composing a poem about Bob before Michael’s suggestion, it’s just that…. Well…. I kept telling myself that Bob is a much better poet than I am!! I suck, especially compared to his writing!! Who am I to compose a poem about the guy who wrote ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’? I cannot…. Besides, Bob has inspired three—currently going on four—very long fictional stories within my heart and soul…. Is that not good enough? “Alright, I’ll {compose} a poem about Bob,” I finally promised Michael, after, like, the billionth time that he asked me, “Just as soon as I’m done writing {my third ‘Bob Dylan Story’}”!! So I did it!! I actually composed a poem about Bob Dylan!! Huh…. This is my longest—and I think my most poetic—poem that I have ever composed!! Go figure…. Peace out, Mary Lou

Note…. For my dear Blogging Friends, Readers and Followers who may not completely understand how Bob Dylan unexpectedly helped me through a dear friend’s breast cancer journey in 2017 by making me laugh, making me smile, making me feel good for a while and helping me to ‘keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew’ when Life was emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually hard…. This is what ‘Supergirl’ is all about!! There were several times during my friend’s breast cancer journey—I served as her part time caregiver—when I did not feel like ‘keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew’. No…. I wanted to hop on a motorcycle and run away. Because that is what I do. I run emotionally and mentally during hard times. But I could not run away. Meanwhile, Bob continuously repeated his line to my heart…. He kept pulling me out of my temporary abyss!! ‘Supergirl’ is Bob ‘talking’ to me…. It’s sort of a non-romantic ‘love poem!! Anyway…. If Bob were to somehow read this poem or find out that his line from ‘Tangled Up In Blue’ served as my Lifeline and his songs helped me through? He would possibly say something like, “Why me? Why did my line help you? Why did my songs make you laugh and smile? Why me?” To which I would answer, “I have spent so much time asking myself those same exact questions!! Maybe you were somehow chosen—by God—to help me through my dear friend’s breast cancer journey!! Because, who knows? Why NOT you?

Peace out, 2017—yes, three days late—you have been simultaneously a good and hard year, filled with positives and negatives…. Just like Life. Hello, 2018!!

Supergirl”
Written by Mary Lou!!
Keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew;
I can be your friend, and see you through;
Keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew;
It’s the only thing we know how to do;
I can bring you laughter, give you smiles;
Make you feel happy for a while;
Although Life’s circumstances are amiss;
I can pull you out of your abyss;
Keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew;
Just let me reach out my hand toward you;
Keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew;
I can help make you somebody anew;
Supergirl, when your strength has waned;
I can be there to help keep you sane;
I know Life happened unexpectedly;
Maybe you can’t help but wonder, ‘Why me?’;
Keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew;
Stay strong, don’t be emotional or blue;
Keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew;
I told you this, and your soul, it grew!!

      Thank-you for the comment, Friend!!
      ‘Terrific poem - keep on keeping on like a bird that flew and your soul is growing.’ Thanks!! I am glad that you enjoyed ‘Supergirl’!! Yes, when my dear friend was battling breast cancer, I did ‘keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew’, and my soul, it grew!! You are absolutely right, Friend…. My soul is still growing!! ‘The only thing I knew how to do was to keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew’ can travel with me in Life {wherever I go}, like when I recently spent three weeks battling the flu…. During Christmastime. I would ‘keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew’ when I suffered from nasty asthma attacks!! Why? Because you do not ‘keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew’ when Life is good!! After all…. Bob was enduring a divorce to his first wife, Sara when he wrote that line…. :-(
      Yes, Lucy Deerson is indeed Supergirl—my Kindred Spirit ‘Cranio Kid’—born a rebel, as well, because this birth defect usually only effects boys!! She’s so adorable and her story was an interesting read!! Thanks for sharing it…. My heart, soul, thoughts and prayers go out to sweet Beautifully Unique Lucy when she undergoes her operation in March!! ;)
      Sorry, long reply…. I so cannot do Twitter!! Ha!! ;-D
